Firstly here's one of the operating platforms at the Scarborough Reef DXpedition. How do you fancy flying tons of equipment round the world, spending three days sailing through the south china sea, living on one of four rocks for a week and all the time watching out for big waves or pirates ? Ok, not this weekend then...

Anyone old enough to remember the woodpecker ? It was the enormously powerful "over the horizon radar" system used by the soviets in the 70's and 80's. Caused mayhem to the rest of the world  (by the way, to be fair, the US had one too...)
