Programme 2008.

Kingdom Amateur Radio Society meets from 7.15pm onwards every third Wednesday of the month.  The venue is at the Scottish Scout HQ, Fordell Firs, near Dunfermline. Visitors are most welcome but to arrange admission must contact us first on visitors@kars.org.uk or call Bernie, GM4WZG on 01383 821690.

At around 7.45pm there is an opportunity to discuss club business and any preparation needed for club events.  This is followed by the main programme item.

Society Membership is £10 January – December.   Attendees are asked to contribute £1 for refreshments/lighting/heating if they can afford it.

January 13th Contest. 

KARS members are taking part in the CW AFS contest from their homes, and combining scores to make an official entry. (confirmed)

January 16th Monthly Meeting - Opening Night. 

Talk in on S21 for our first evening - just to make sure you find us!

Brian MM0XBD will talk briefly about the Society and its aims. (confirmed)

Malcolm, GM3TAL will present a talk and a practical demonstration of Small Magnetic Loop Antennas. Watch out for the sparks ! (confirmed)

January 19th Contest

KARS members are taking part in the SSB AFS contest from their homes, and combining scores to make an official entry. (confirmed)

February 20th Monthly Meeting

Guest Speaker Stewart, GM4AFF was part of the CT9L contest team this year for CQ WW. He hopes to get away from a busy travelling schedule to speak to us tonight about his contest experiences.

We know that Stewart sometimes has to travel for his work at the drop of a hat so just in case, Alex GM3ZBE will be ready to give an alternative presentation "Doublets, Dipoles and Decibels" which went down a treat at the RSGB HF Convention.

March 19th

Monthly Meeting - Out and About Night

Guest Speaker Jack, GM4COX will give us a talk about his SOTA exploits. (Summits on the Air) (confirmed)

We're awaiting the video of the 3B7C Brandon Isles dx-pedition. Depending on its length we'll show it tonight. If its a bit of a squeeze we'll screen it later in the year.

 

April 16th

Monthly Meeting -  Ham Radio from VP8

Dave Burke, GM6SZJ worked with British Antarctic Survey and operated as VP8AQA  from Faraday Base.  Tonight Dave will talk to us about his experiences - both of life on the ice and of ham radio from one of the more unusual locations in the world !

Monthly Meeting - Club Visit

We've arranged a visit this evening to the Glenrothes Police Control Room.  There will be no meeting at Fordell. Don't be the one to turn up there !

Contest

RSGB NFD CW – 1500-1500

The club will make an entry in this contest.  We're looking for both experienced operators and 'newbies'.  Whoever you are, there'll be practice beforehand so we can try and get it right on the day.

Monthly Meeting - Antenna Modelling Night

Talk and demonstration by Alex GM3ZBE. Computer Modelling of Antennas and Feedlines – How and Why ? (confirmed)

Very short demo of a free version of Antenna Modelling Software  by Bernie GM4WZG (confirmed)

July 19th and 20th

Fun Activity Day/RSGB Low Power Field Day

Join us at Fordell Firs for a relaxing couple of days doing what radio clubs do best - playing radio, socialising, enjoying the weather regardless of how it is, and having a barbie).

 

Somewhere in all of that if we still have the energy we might be putting an entry in for the RSGB Low Power field Day.  (confirmed)

July 16th Monthly Meeting  - Special Event Planning/Operating Evening

We'll be planning the two special events of the year and we'll take the opportunity to assemble the station and try it out (confirmed)

August 16th/17th Special Event Station

Lighthouse Weekend  - The first of our special event stations of the year. See it both as a nice day out and as practice for the main event - Jamboree On The Air in October (confirmed).

August 20th Monthly Meeting

We're planning a summer recess but if enough folk are still around during the summer holiday period we'll still have a meeting (programme item to be confirmed).

September 6/7th Contest

RSGB SSB Field Day 1300-1300

Hot on the heels of earlier successes (we hope!) we'll be having a good bash at the RSGB main event (confirmed).

September 17th Monthly Meeting - Computing and Radio Night

We'll have a short talk by Bernie GM4WZG on the NCDXF Project and the KARS monitoring station (confirmed).

Followed by a demo of PSK by Brian MM0XBD.

October 15th Monthly Meeting - JOTA Preparation

Our regular meeting room is where we operate JOTA from. There will be lots to do to get a first class demonstration station on air with all the supporting materials (confirmed).

 
October 18th/19th Jamboree On The Air,

We'll be at the usual monthly meeting place but this time expect a steady stream of interested young visitors. We're setting up to have nice big strong signals for greetings message exchanges. If there's enough of us, lets get a beam up, and lets get some power going - this'll be no QRP event ! (confirmed)

November 19th Monthly Meeting - AGM

The AGM will be followed by our guest speaker Ian White, GM3SEK - Editor, 'The VHF/UHF DX Book' and 'In Practice' columnist for RadCom (RSGB).  Ian to many, needs no introduction and will be speaking to us on a topic to be decided a little nearer the time (confirmed).
